A full service international maritime company had a fleet of tugboats with leaking heat exchangers and they could not determine what caused the failures.  The heat exchangers used sea water for process cooling and installation environment was routinely covered in sea water.  The maritime service company had taken the exchangers to a number of mechanical service companies that were unable to help before they were referred to Heat Transfer Solutions.

The exchangers were brought into our shop for evaluation.  Our Engineers determined the failure mechanism and recommended material changes to the shell and tubes to prevent this type of failure from occurring in the future.  The maritime service company agreed and contracted with HTS to rebuild the exchangers.  The project was completed and the corrosion resistant heat exchangers were reinstalled on the tugboat and are operating as designed.
